It’s a Knockout – CO’s Cup Report
The 24 Apr 18 saw RAF High Wycombe host the first Inter-Station It’s a Knockout CO’s Cup event in celebration of RAF 100. Personnel from RAF Halton, RAF Northolt, RAF Benson and RAF High Wycombe attended the special event with over 100 people enjoying the festivities.
After weeks of organisation and preparation the day arrived and began with the PEd Flight setting up the eleven activities included the inflatables, sport skills and fitness challenges. Checking the weather forecast and finding showers were expected throughout, the PEd Flight were ably assisted by two of the Regiment’s finest in erecting gazebos ‘just in case’!
After much deliberation, it was decided that we would proceed outside; this turned out to be an inspired decision. As personnel from all four stations started to arrive at the event, excitement and anticipation began to build. RAF Halton brought around 40 SATTs so some of them were used to bolster teams from other stations to even up the playing field. Once the teams had been ticked off, it was time for the demo’s and warm up. Cpl Hollyman led the line with help from his glamorous assistants; Sgt Batson and Cpl Smith minus the lycra! With everyone warm and raring to go each team were allocated their start event and the CO’s Cup began!
Each activity had a scorer who was there for encouragement and enforcing rules, knowing that certain people would be pushing their luck due to their competitive nature! Each activity lasted 4 minutes with final scores being given to Chief Scorer, Mrs Chris Hardy, who was collating the figures. The order of the activities took a couple of twists throughout with some scorers providing alternative routes! Every team gave their maximum effort and everyone appeared to have an amazing time even if they were feeling a little fragile towards the end.
Once the eleven rotations had been completed it was time for ‘Demolition’ which was worth an extra 50 points to the winner. Two representatives were chosen by each station to showcase their talents on the final inflatable wrecking ball challenge with the aim of being the last man standing. After two thrilling semi-finals it was time for the big finale, with a representative making it through from each station. A nail biting finish resulted in RAF High Wycombe taking the spoils with a thunderous hit to settle the matter.
With all events completed and final scores in, it was time to announce the winner. Photos were taken and all participants tucked into a cracking spread of food which put the icing on the cake to a terrific event in celebration of RAF 100. Gp Capt Woods, very kindly presented the RAF High Wycombe Holding Officers team with the winner’s trophy and more importantly a box of Quality Street. The PEd Flight would like to thank all those who helped with the organisation and we look forward to welcoming you all to the next CO’s Cup event of Dragon Boat Racing on 21 Jun 18 at the Danesfield Water sports centre.
