A SUNSET CEREMONY WITH A DIFFERENCE

13 June saw RAF High Wycombe host its Annual Reception in the Officers Mess, inviting guests from the local community to share in an evening of recognition and personal thanks from unit personnel for supporting the Station as a community.

The Station Commander welcomed the Mayors of High Wycombe and Princes Risborough, Steven Baker MP, local dignitaries, heads of local schools and the Royal Star and Garter Home, amongst many more. It gave the Station the perfect opportunity to extend our gratitude for the support we receive as well as offer them the opportunity to get to know our personnel with the aim of giving them a better understanding of what we, as a Station do.

This year’s occasion was made even better by the great participation from the Units biggest lodger unit, Head Quarters Air Command, with personnel acting as escorts, ushers and the Parade Guards of Honour. The rain attempted to put a dampener on the evening but failed when the Sunset Ceremony moved indoors for a change of scenery. Flight Lieutenant George Watson acted as Parade Commander on the occasion, with personnel from across the entirety of the Unit acting as Guards of Honour; the Air Cadets from the Hertfordshire and Buckinghamshire Wing lined the route and Queens Colour Squadron personnel lowered the Ensign.

The Station Commander added ‘its my absolute pleasure to be able to host so many local community leaders that play key roles in the lives and welfare of our personnel and their families. Its been a great opportunity to not only extend our gratitude and thanks for all that they do for the whole of the Royal Air Force family, but for them to get to know our people and all the great work that they do.’
