RAF HIGH WYCOMBE Civil Servant Becomes NHS volunteer During Isolation

BEING told to self-isolate at home due to being ‘High Risk’ was a blow to Qasim Wazier. Regardless of his own health concerns Quasim wanted to stay productive and help the public in whatever way he could. Using the NHS volunteer scheme, he is now providing telephone support to people suffering with mental health problems during COVID-19.

Qasim (20), of High Wycombe, works a Civil Servant at RAF High Wycombe. Unfortunately for Qasim, when COVID-19 precautions were taken in the UK he found himself in self-isolation due to his asthma. Within a week of signing up to the NHS volunteer scheme Qasim was active in his new NHS role:

“My role is to provide support to people over the phone and offer assistance to anybody who is suffering mentally in these times. I’ve spoken to people from age 18 up to 40 which shows it doesn’t matter how old or young, you have someone to speak to if you’re afraid and confused. I am proud to offer support to others and do my part.”
