In 2010, the amalgamation of Bluebell Early Years and Medmenham Pre-school saw the creation of Medmenham Early Years.
Based at the Medmenham Married Quarters patch and collocated with the Medmenham Community Centre, the Medmenham Early Years Pre-school provides childcare facilities for military and local civilian parents. The setting is separated into two ‘departments’; the Acorns for children from 1-2 years, and the Oaks for the children aged 3-5 years.
The manager Tracey Slee and her team have been working hard to ensure standards were maintained and if possible improved. They continuously developed the environment for the children in their care, ensuring the equipment and furniture is fun, friendly and educational, making significant improvements to the infrastructure of the pre-school to include new toilet facilities and development of the external areas. In January this year the Medmenham Early Years received their Ofsted inspection and was graded Outstanding across the board:
The pre-school is exceptionally welcoming and inclusive. Children are very happy and highly motivated in their play, and extremely well engaged in their learning.
The pre-school maintains excellent relationships with parents, who are valued highly to provide a significant partnership in their children’s learning and development. Consequently parents are very positive about the care their children receive.
Staff provide rich, varied and exciting experiences for children, who as a result are making exceptional progress in all seven areas of learning; Personal, Social and Emotional Development; Communication and Language; Physical Development; Literacy; Mathematics; Understanding the World and Expressive Arts and Design.
There are excellent transition systems to support children moving on to school. Consequently children are very well prepared and confident.
The leadership and management are highly motivational and inspirational.
To celebrate the excellent result of the inspection, the then Station Commander RAF High Wycombe and Medmenham Early Years’ Chairman presented the team with flowers at a reception at the Pre-school.
However not to rest on their laurels, once the celebrations were over, the team were already planning their next phase of improvements that they would like to make and also making plans of how they were going to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the establishment of the Medmenham Pre-school.
