Annual Reception 2016

Dignitaries, charity workers and community personalities came together on the 10th of May at RAF High Wycombe to reflect on a successful year of community achievements.

The Station Commander, Group Captain Phil Lester, took the opportunity to thank the myriad of hard working personnel. He said ‘I must thank my staff for the efforts they continue to make, but most importantly I would like to thank the local community for their ongoing support, without which our efforts would not be possible’.

The event received more than 130 guests including the High Sheriff of Buckinghamshire, the Lord Lieutenant and local Mayors, who enjoyed performances from the RAF High Wycombe Ladies Choir and the Band of the RAF Regiment.

As well as Station personnel it was supported by 3 local Air Training Corps Units – 332 Squadron High Wycombe, 606 Squadron Beaconsfield and 871 Squadron Penn.

After a weekend of warmth and sun many would have imagined the Reception to be bathed in sunshine. However the weather conspired to change the evening, with rain resulting in the cancellation of the Sunset Ceremony and flypast, more for the benefit of the visitors not being forced to be drenched, rather than the parade who stood by ready to perform.
