Ride to Glory

The RAF High Wycombe Saddle Club have just won the Royal Air Force Equestrian Association (RAFEA) Inter-Station League.

In May, the leagues were drawn and High Wycombe were drawn against RAF Halton, RAF Northolt and RAF Coningsby.  After some negotiations we ended up playing RAF Halton on 23 May 11 at Hideaway Farm (RAF Halton’s home venue).  The final result was RAF High Wycombe (Jess Hall, Caroline Drewery, Ayshea Iliffe and Russ Gleeson) won 11 points to 9. A big thank you to Cpl Flo Dent for organising the venue.

In June, we should have played RAF Coningsby at Flemish Farm (our home Venue, c/o the Light Cavalry – Windsor). Unfortunately due to injury and sickness, Coningsby had to withdraw at the last moment which meant we had a walk over….. 15 points.
On 12 July, we played RAF Northolt at Flemish Farm, our team of Caroline Drewery, Ayshea Illiffe, Charlotte Hill and Kirsten Farmer, rode to victory again 11 points to 9.  A big thank you to Caroline Quested (Chief Instructor and manager of Flemish Farm) for her help, guidance and for the superb horses that we were blessed to ride.

At the end of July all the teams had their points totalled and RAF High Wycombe had won our league!!! This qualified us for the Final at RAF Cranwell on 23 August.  The team, Caroline Drewery, Charlotte Hill, Kirsten Farmer and bride-to-be Ayshea Iliffe, rode to victory. Charlotte won overall best rider for the best dressage and jumping score combined and Ayshea won best overall Dressage Test.  A big thank you to Tracy Willcocks for allowing the ISL to hold the Finals at Cranwell and for her continued help and support. From the beginner (never sat on a horse) to experienced rider, we are always looking for people to join the Saddle Club, so come and join us for lessons, hacks and pub/fun rides.  For further details please contact Linda Cole Ext 7679 (01494 497679).
