Laura’s aiming to rise above the rest.

Flight Operations Officer, Laura Baylis and her husband, Robert Baylis, Commodity Analyst, are set to represent Great Britain in the World Duathlon Championships held in Gijon, Spain, in September.

Laura was born in Northampton and attended Northampton School for Girls before studying at Oxford Brookes University and gaining sponsorship for the RAF.

She competes in the discipline which requires incredible levels of endurance, as a typical race will consist of a 10 km run, a 40 km cycle with a 5 km run to finish. Her outstanding achievement of representing her country has been secured after fantastic performances in her age group over the past 12 months. Laura dedicates many hours per week of her own time to train and prepare for these high profile competitions against many athletes who are in full-time training.
“It is not easy balancing a career in the RAF with performing as an international athlete”, she said.

“I get tremendous support from everybody at High Wycombe and so I try not to think too much about the advantage that full-time athletes have”.

Baylis works extremely hard to ensure that the two demands stay in balance and has carved out an exciting career choice in the RAF, but the cost of competing in Triathlons around the world is an expensive undertaking and Laura is always keen to attract sponsors to help her in her pursuits on the world stage. To add to her impressive achievements she also qualified to represent Great Britain in the World Triathlon Championships in Beijing this summer. First place positions in the RAF and InterServices London Marathon in Apr 11 show this athlete’s supreme talent.
