Station Commander Officially Opens Fully Refurbished Squash Courts

Are you looking for a new sport to indulge in now the summer is behind us?

Way back on the 31st May 2011, the Station Commander, Group Captain Heffron, cut a ribbon to open a state-of-the-art squash facility at 2 Site, RAF High Wycombe. No longer is there asbestos lurking within the roof or plaster falling off the court walls. The 4-month regeneration project, at considerable cost, has seen a complete transformation of the building. A new roof has been fitted and the walls have been re-plastered. New flooring has been put down in both courts and the viewing gallery, entrance way and corridor downstairs have been completely redecorated. Not only this, the ablutions have also had a make-over, with new showers and a changing area now fit for purpose. In short, we now have an excellent squash facility for the use of all staff at RAF High Wycombe. These works are the first stage of improved sport facilities at the Station, with new tennis courts and a recreation centre scheduled in the not too distant future.

The opening ceremony was also an opportunity for the Stn Cdr to make some presentations. Wg Cdr John Paulson and Sgt Matt Bowen were presented with trophies for finishing 1st and 2nd, respectively, in the Stn squash knockout competition, completed just before the refurbishment began. The coveted winning trophy was fiercely competed for by all members of the Stn squash ladder.

Have we whetted your appetite? The newly appointed team taking RAF High Wycombe Squash forward are Sqn Ldr Neil Flather Ext: 6471 and Sgt Lee Simpson Ext: 7095. Give them a call – all standards are welcome. If you want to simply play squash, it is advisable to book a court first, to avoid disappointment. Simply fill in the booking sheet at the courts.
